Cooking
All night long male relatives, neighbours and friends had been preparing and cooking the special vegetarian feast to be eaten at dawn. This consisted of coconut milk, rice cooked with banana, green (mung) beans, dates, honey and cashew nuts. These are all “cooling” foods. They are also pure foods without pollution - that is why no flesh is prepared, cooked or served.
Extreme cleanliness and purity must be observed to avoid any pollution. Pollution would adversely affect the outcome of the ceremony. None of the foods are tasted or eaten until the Officiant as the representative of the Deities, has eaten first.
